I am a pediatrician with a focus on immunology and oncology. I was always fascinated by the fact that the immune system has to maintain a tightly regulated balance of complex pro- and anti-inflammatory responses, and tiny alterations of single genes tip the scales towards immunodeficiency, autoimmunity or cancer. My main research focus is to understand the importance of individual errors in human lymphocytes for disease development. The research is designed to elucidate sometimes common molecular mechanisms underlying immunodeficiency, autoimmunity and cancer. With this understanding we develop novel individualized herapeutic approaches.
